Nornabell's...Where did we get the name?

...The shop takes its name from the cobbled yard just behind the big green gates to the left of the shop.
Thomas Nornabell, was a machine maker who owned some of the properties down the yard behind the shop in the 1800's. There is a very detailed map of Market Weighton printed in 1849 which shows Nornabell's Yard and a number of similar yards, housing families and tradesmen, just off Market Place.
In the 1900's Nornabell's Yard was more commonly known to the locals as Rickatsons's Yard because of Rickatsons Taylors which was situated where Dyson's shop is today.
Nornabell's Yard (The Shop) has been open for over a year now and this summer to celebrate our success, we decided to open the green gates to let everyone enjoy the beautiful view of the yard whilst browsing the junk for sale in our arch way. It has been a real hit with our customers and we have sold lots of interesting and obscure items over the last few months including a butter churn, antique table top knife sharpener, wash board, enamel buckets, garden tools, even a pair of fishing waders!
Unfortunately, the arch will be closed over the winter but come the spring the green gates will open again to allow people to rummage through the junk and enjoy the view.
Welcome to Nornabell’s Yard, the little shop of teasures, please take a look inside.
