Nornabell's...Where did we get the name?
...The shop takes its name from the cobbled yard just behind the big green gates to the left of the shop.
Thomas Nornabell, was a machine maker who owned some of the properties down the yard behind the shop in the 1800's. There is a very detailed map of Market Weighton printed in 1849 which shows Nornabell's Yard and a number of similar yards, housing families and tradesmen, just off Market Place.
Nornabell's Yard (The Shop) has been open for two years. During the summer months we open the big green gates to reveal the yard and the archway full of junk and interesting items for sale. It has been a real hit with our customers and we have sold lots of interesting and obscure items over the last few months including a butter churn, antique table top knife sharpener, wash board, enamel buckets, garden tools, even a pair of fishing waders!
Welcome to Nornabell’s Yard, the little shop of teasures, please take a look inside.
